Free Choice

My first free choice was centered around the idea of death. I painted a person highlighting the eyes and mouth with many colors to show the things we say, see and think. This piece symbolizes the things we say think and see and how it will just vanish when we die. I finger painted this piece to show a messiness and frustration.

My second piece was just a study of feet. I really like feet and wanted to get better at drawing them, so I did this over and over again with chalk on a big piece of craft paper.

I do however need to make more free choice for my breadth section because I sold a lot of my drawings already. I am currently working on a collage and a still life for this reason. I will also make a lot of stuff during break and hope to have 12 new pieces by the exam time.

Self Portrait

I put a lot of thought and time into my self portrait and I think that is what really makes it unique. I wanted to do the concept of being trapped in my own mind. As an artist, my mind is always going and always thinking of super random and crazy things. So I made the background representing my brain with all the crazy designs. I then placed myself in front of class to make it look like I was trapped in this diamond vortex. I then drew myself in a sort of "cold" way to show mt shyness that I am when I don't know the people around me. I also represented myself with things that really show "me" with my signature necklace, my deadlock, and my favorite outfit. One of my biggest insecurities is my feet, so I drew them even more ugly than they actually were. I think that this time, the brown paper didn't work as well as it usually does and I could have also done the mounting a bit better, but overall I am very happy with how the piece turned out.

Self portrait Proposal

For my self portrait I am very stuck between two ideas. I really want to do a foreshortened view of someone on top of a glass table (viewing the person from under the table). I couldn't find a lot of inspiration for this and I really don't know how I would do it....but I WILL figure it out. In the background of this drawing, I would like to do some sort of trippy, zen pattern (I've been pretty inspired by this lately). My other Idea is a 50's look portrait with the full hair and makeup and a 50's background. I might mix both of these ideas together....I might not......I don't know. Ill figure it out. The End! I want to do this sort of crazy background to show my "inner psycho". I am sort of a quite person but my mind is crazy. In this picture I would like to show this but trapping myself behind this window and showing how the background is my mind that I and trapped in. I am showing foreshortening by putting my hands up against the glass and one leg behind the other. This will make my hands look almost bigger than my head when they really are not. It will also make it look like I only have one leg.

Landscape and Cityscape

For my landscape piece, I needed to finish up a commission and this project was perfect for that. I painted a sailboat on a wooden panel with acrylics. It is a bit basic and boring but i tried to but more detail and color into it than I normally do, just to make it pop a little more. For The cityscape, I made a paper substrate out of book clippings (to tie in the collage idea). I then screened back the words with acrylics and drew over it in ink. I tried to make the buildings very illustrative and cartoon-ish but I still think it needs something more.

Free Choice Statement

Both of my free choice breadth pieces were mainly (and selfishly) for me. I did a giant self portrait because I am self centered and I knew it would be epic. I also did a different portrait of my friend that she will be buying from me. The portrait of me is done in acrylic but I also plan to add some watercolor to the background. If the water color doesn't work the way I want it to, then I will cut it out and add a starry collage to the background. the other drawing of Allie is decent. I wish I would have mounted it better and there are small details I would change, but over all, I think she will like it. It could use a background but I normally don't do them on portraits that I sell. My concept in my pieces was a bit weak but my craftsmanship was the thing that I think I did the best on.

When we visited MIAD, I was mainly inspired by the students work there. The first piece really stood out to me because it looked like something I would do. I love the way the figure is shown and also the way white is used in the piece to bring out the highlights. The second piece really spoke to me because of the color. I have tried to do unusual colors like this before and this piece makes me want to do that again. The last piece is something I've always wanted to do. Print making is very interesting to me and I would love to learn how to do it some time.
This photo was taken while I was walking. The figurine scared the crap out of me so I had to take a picture of it. I wasn't trying to make it look good but for some reason, I love how this photo turned out, and I could maybe work with this in the future.
There was something weird to me about this exit sign. I think I could use this for print making if I ever end up trying it. I also like the way the pipework looks in this photo and the way the lighting moves back into the picture.
I would love to go to MIAD for college but they dont have my major. So while I was fantasizing about living in these beautiful dorms, I tool and interesting photo of them that could be used for a study drawing later.

Free Choice

For my free choice I want to kill two birds with one stone and do some projects that I am making as commotions for people. I have 4 of them to do, and I really just think I'm gonna get as many as I can done by that deadline and then turn in the best one. They are all portraits of people, and then one is a tattoo design for a friend.
